DISABILITY SUPPORT WORKER

The primary role of a Disability Support Worker is to provide assistance to participants with disability to work towards the participant’s goals.

You will work in community-based settings or in some cases provide support in the participant’s home. Although you are part of a team, you must have the ability to work independently.

Duties/Responsibilities of Disability Support Workers include:

Basic Hygiene Tasks

Cooking, cleaning, Laundry

Medication administration

Transporting participants to therapy or doctor appointments travel with them to place of recreation, workplaces and community activities.

Behaviour observation and support

Maintaining record of participant progress

Assessing participant to determine continuing needs

Assistance in building participant self-image and self-confidence

Tasks outlined in the Individual Support Plan (ISP)
